If you are traveling to Anjuna Beach in Goa by the Market Road you might come across a unique Red logo painted on a wall near Cliff Monty with directions for a Japanese restaurant.
If you are a foodie and are intrigued follow the small lane away from the main road, it will lead you towards the restaurant. When entering the premise you will notice that it is basically a house with the garden serving as the dining place and front room as the kitchen. The place is a cozy family restaurant run by Akira and his wife. Both of the are native of Gifu Prefecture in Japan and travel to Goa during the peak season. I have always been fascinated with Japanese cuisine and to find an authentic Japanese restaurant in Goa was a dream come true. It was a lucky day for me as I found out that it was their opening day of the season and I was their first customer.
They have a well rounded menu with lot of varieties to choose from. After a lot of deliberation I choose Kakuni which is a traditional Japanese soft pork stew with boiled eggs with some mustard and it was deliciously awesome. The meat was juicy and cooked to perfection. But the star of the dish was the sweet sauce which was finger licking good.
When visiting one thing to note is that they only accept cash for payment which is kind of a norm in Goa. If you are visiting the Anjuna or Vagator beaches and you want to eat some yummy Japanese food, you have to go to the Irori to get your palate satisfied.
